Before Lombard Street was “the crookedest street in the world” and Macondray Lane inspired Armistaud Maupin’s Tales of the City, Russian Hill was the final resting place of fur trappers from a Russian fort north of San Francisco. The storied neighborhood occupies one of the city’s seven original hills and showcases many historic and noteworthy properties from the national register Russian Hill-Paris Block Architectural District to the Eichler-designed highrise The Summit. Steep staircase streets, verdant passageways, and amazing views make this character-rich area both memorable and highly desirable.

Ina Coolbirth Park is a serene spot to enjoy views of Telegraph Hill, and Michelangelo Playground offers a community garden. The newest neighborhood park, Francisco Park, is 4.5 acres overlooking some of the most famous scenery in the world with outlooks stretching from the Golden Gate Bridge to Alcatraz Island and beyond.
Russian Hill’s proximity to the Polk Street and Lombard Street corridors, as well as the neighborhoods of North Beach, Marina District and Pacific Heights, means a wide array of city amenities and cultural experiences is never far away. For a classic taste of San Francisco, ride the cablecar to the corner of Hyde and Union for a couple cold scoops at the original Swensen’s Ice Cream (since 1948).
