telegraph hill

Telegraph Hill is perhaps the most definitively San Francisco of the city’s original seven hills. Hidden staircases and lush gardens mark the ascent to Pioneer Park and landmark Coit Tower, where the famous parrots of Telegraph Hill take flight over the storied Barbary Coast. Gold Rush era modest homes, 1906 earthquake cottages, and Art Deco masterpieces dot the hillside, while modern homes boast coveted 360-degree views from rooftop terraces. In many ways, Telegraph Hill embodies the essence of San Francisco: equal parts humble and high-brow, a mix of ideas, a place of quirks and characters, and a celebration of the human spirit so entwined in our magnificent city’s rise from rubble.

Telegraph Hill is primarily residential. Its western and southern sides overlooking North Beach and the Financial District, respectively, are a patchwork of Victorian flats punctuated by a periodic modern home. To the east, the Filbert Steps traverse rustic wood-plank walkways where quaint homes cling to the hillside.
