North Beach Malt House is an historic landmark building, first serving from the mid-19th century as a malting factory and brewery before being rebuilt after the 1906 earthquake as the headquarters for Bauer & Schweitzer Malting Company. The original structure at 445 Francisco was converted to residences in 2001, and newly constructed annexes at 411 Francisco, 530 Chestnut and 2230 Mason joined the development as it exists today.
Each of the eighty-eight units range from approximately 900 to 1,600 sq ft. Most units are single-level however there are two-level loft style residences including six with direct access to the common courtyard which features the original factory’s grain silos.
