San Francisco’s iconic Haight Ashbury neighborhood is a colorful, and sometimes unruly, hub of the city. Its legacy as the epicenter of the 1960s counterculture movement and embracing social fringe is alive and well, and artists and intellectuals alike take up residence in the neighborhood today.
One of the Haight’s draws is its immaculately preserved Victorian manses, from the I. Magnin house to the Four Seasons. History and culture buffs will know where to find the former hangouts of Jerry Garcia, Janis Joplin, Jimi Hendrix, Graham Nash and other greats that created the soundtrack of the 1967 Summer of Love.
There are numerous parks in the area including Panhandle Park, Richard Gamble Memorial Park, Buena Vista Park, and Golden Gate Park. For views, Tank Hill, Corona Heights, and Mt. Sutro are not to be missed.
