cole valley
Cole Valley came into its own in the 1920s after completion of the Sunset Tunnel which provides quick transit to downtown. Then, in the 1960s, the neighborhood experiences an influx of residents from neighboring Haight Ashbury. As this population matured in the following decades and became homeowners and parents, local property values increased and the area became decidedly more upscale and tranquil than its bohemian neighbor.

Then, in the 1960s, the neighborhood experiences an influx of residents from neighboring Haight Ashbury. As this population matured in the following decades and became homeowners and parents, local property values increased and the area became decidedly more upscale and tranquil than its bohemian neighbor.
The neighborhood is surrounded by parks and open space. At the west end of the Sunset Tunnel, Richard Gamble Memorial is Cole Valley’s largest public park. And while Tank Hill is known for its city and bay views, hiking into the vast and densely forested Mt. Sutro Open Space Reserve has its own rewards.
Cole Street is an active business strip lined with celebrated eateries, popular cafes, boutique grocers and independently-owned shops for everyday essentials. Commercial activity overflows to the west to Stanyan Street and Parnassus Avenue, two transit-rich corridors.
