San Francisco just closed out the first half of 2023 with a 13.52 percent increase in median home price. Perhaps it is surprising in light of recent media portrayals of our city, but it is not unpredictable in the context of sales trends going back decades. As it turns out, people still want to live here, are still buying real estate here, and the perennial undersupply of housing still exists. It’s all business as usual in the grand scheme of things.

All that said, summer is here and peak travel season coincides with a slowdown in market activity. Fewer new listings and shrinking selection of inventory are to be expected but, for home buyers, it also means less competition and the possibility to negotiate a bargain price for properties that aren’t so hot. Historically, the city’s median home price falls between June and September — by an average 5.20 percent over the past 20 years.

Notice the array of properties below: luxury and entry-level homes, recently built and fixer-uppers, single-family and condominium and tenancy-in-common. There are opportunities across the board, just waiting for buyers to shoot their shot.
