When the one-bedroom cottage at 1729 Revere Avenue in San Francisco’s Bayview neighborhood appeared on the market in April 2022, it looked the part of a property that has seen better days. From falling plaster ceilings and a barely-there kitchen to peeling paint and so much faux wood paneling, it was a fixer not for the faint of heart.

Fast forward twelve months, the single-family home is today almost unrecognizable. In addition to a reconfigured layout and all the trappings one would expect of a fresh flip, the place almost doubled in size to approximately 1,248 square feet with three bedrooms and two full baths. It landed on the market last week at just under $1 million, all but certain to attract multiple offers.

Let’s take a look at the before and after…

hey, home buyer

Winning in a real estate market as dynamic as San Francisco’s calls for hyperlocal expertise. We earn our clients' business every time. No pressure, just experience.

Tap that icon to the right. Let's talk.

An inviting entry and expanded living space is achieved by deleting the partition wall that existed to create a central hallway. Notice the wide-plank flooring, recessed lighting and in-ceiling speakers — features now found throughout the home.

A new open-concept layout hits all the right notes. The continuity of quartz-topped cabinetry from the kitchen into sitting area where it flanks the fireplace is a nice design touch.

Two words: total transformation.

Across from the kitchen, what was a pantry/storage room has been replaced with stairs to an added downstairs level. Removing an adjacent wall and relocating the full bathroom now allows for direct access to the backyard.

Behind the old bathroom was an enclosed porch encompassing entirely too much dysfunctional square footage. It is now a stylish space that benefits from the home’s new systems and on-demand water heater.

Completing this main floor is one bedroom with a double closet and awash in soft northern light.

The south-facing sunny backyard gained an outdoor kitchen, attractive privacy fencing and a walking path which leads to…

…an all-seasons gazebo decked out with lighting, audio and even a television. We’re loving this extension of the home’s entertaining space.

Back inside, the new lower level now includes two bedrooms, a second full bath and laundry facilities made possible with the help of minor excavation — adding approximately 500 square feet. An existing garage for one vehicle has been upgraded with an EV charger and convenient interior access.

1729 Revere Avenue is marketed and listed exclusively by cooperating broker Coldwell Banker Realty. All listing photos courtesy of SFAR MLS.
